Jack Summers Weiford, 89, of Loveland, Ohio, formerly of Parkersburg, passed away Jan. 30, 2012.
He was born in Marlinton, W.Va., the son of the late Kenneth and Laura Beard Weiford.
He had worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Quarter Master Corps in England. He worked for many years with the Union Carbide Company as a Chemical Operator and was a member of the Steel Workers Union Local # 14200. He volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Cardiac Unit and also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and had a passion for gardening later in life and loved sharing his harvest with family and friends. He was a member of the Parkersburg American Legion Post #15 and the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his children, Robert Weiford and wife Barbara of Vienna and Angela Trauth of Loveland, Ohio. His grandchildren, Michael Weiford, Andria Rexroad and Mark Weiford. His great grandchildren, Austin and Hannah Weiford, Christopher and Benjamin Putnam, Ashley and Rachel Rexroad, Kyle and Katelyn Weiford. One great great granddaughter, Lilly Marie Weiford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Weiford on Oct. 20, 2012; his brothers, Keith, Kay and Bill Weiford and one sister, Helen Terrill.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Andy Switzer as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by Parkersburg American Legion Post # 15. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg and in the church vestibule from 9-10 a.m. Saturday prior to the Mass.
