Ruth Irene Carder
Ruth Irene Carder, of Seabrook, Texas, passed away on Jan. 16, 2013.
Ruth was born in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Ada and Clifton Butcher, on Feb. 6, 1916. She moved to West Virginia while she was a young girl, where she spent her entire life before moving to Seabrook, Texas in 2001. She resided there with her daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Gary Allen. Ruth was a member of the 7th Street United Methodist her entire life. She taught various Sunday school classes, was a member of the choir, active in the missionary group and involved with the youth of the church. She was a member of the Hannah-Ruth circle and the Crusaders Sunday school class. Prior to her marriage, she had been employed at American Viscose in Parkersburg. Later in life, Ruth spent many years as the Y-Teen Director at the Parkersburg YWCA.
Ruth and her husband, James Carder, had celebrated their 50th anniversary shortly before his death in 1996. Preceding her in death were sisters, Emma Amos, Betty Gilbert and Ada (Miggie) Hunter; and a beloved grandson, Jason Allen. Survivors include daughter, Janis Allen and husband Gary; and son, Rick Carder of Walker, W.Va.; her grandchildren, Barbara Bowsher and husband Jeff of San Antonio, Texas, Chad Allen of Aurora, Colo., and Davina Cox and Todd Carder, both of Parkersburg; sisters, Nina Lewis, Lucille Contosta and Fay Tuttle; sister-in-law, Jane Sandy and husband John; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the Spring at 7th Street United Methodist Church in Parkersburg.
