Rebecca Ann (Sheets) Ahart
Surrounded by her devoted husband and three children, Rebecca Ann (Sheets) Ahart, passed away Jan. 14, 2013, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Rebecca was born July 18, 1948, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to Blaine and Mildred (Cale) Sheets. A lifelong resident of Vincent, Ohio, Rebecca graduated from Warren High School in 1966. Not long after graduation, she married Chuck Ahart on Aug. 9, 1969.
Rebecca was a proud mother, survived by her husband, Chuck Ahart; and her children, son, Chuck Ahart Jr. (Tracy) of Marietta; daughter, Kary Ahart Phelps (Dallas) of Williamstown; daughter, Kimberly Ahart Harlow (Kevin) of Vincent; and step-daughter, Angela Ahart Uber (Ron) of Tennessee.
Rebecca had been employed previously at Misty Manufacturing, Kroger, Warren Schools and Interim Health Care. Rebecca had many things she loved, and many people who loved her. She deeply loved her husband, Chuck, and enjoyed over 40 years of happy marriage. Their love was apparent when in the company of their family. She enjoyed spending time and laughing with her children, and looked forward to the joy, and sometimes chaos, of visiting with the 10 grandchildren. Rebecca enjoyed sewing and caring for her gardens. She enjoyed sharing in her husband’s passion for OSU sports, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers. As much as these activities brought joy to her life, nothing could compare to the happiness she experienced watching the grandkids participate in all kinds of activities, or simply sitting on her lap. If she wasn’t at an event for the grandkids, you might find her pulling a home video of a family gathering off the mountain of video tapes and watching it. Rebecca was very proud of her adored grandkids, Kylie, Mackenzie and Kaylie Ahart, Bailey and Aiden Harlow, Macy and Alia Phelps, Kaitlin, Cameron and Joshua Uber; and great-grandson, Kristopher Uber. A sparkling eye and beaming smile was sure to meet each grandchild before leaving with a smothering hug and kiss only grandma could give.
As “Sis”, she is survived by Richard Sheets (Tina); two nieces, Shari (Shawn) Mallett and Kelly Fitch. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Rowena Bruner (Cliff) and Polly Teets; aunts, Helen Stilgenbauer, Nancy Cale and Betty Cale; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and many loving aunts and uncles.
Rebecca let it be known she felt blessed to have special caregivers during her lengthy illness, Jess Smarr (Bay), Patty Blanchard and her “special angel”, Shirley Smith.
Rebecca requested a special thank you be sent to the many professionals who cared for her, Dr. Cawley, Strecker Staff, Dr. Lloyd Dennis and his office staff, and the visiting nurses and other caring staff at Health Care Plus.
It is with great sorrow we say goodbye for now to a devoted wife, caring sister, loving mother, adoring grandmother and dear friend, Rebecca Sheets Ahart.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Rev. David Stilgenbauer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
