Elmer Kenneth ‘Ken’ Eakins
Elmer Kenneth “Ken” Eakins, 82, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away Jan. 13, 2013, at the Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
He was born at Harmony, W.Va., the son of the late Elmer L. and Flossie Conley Eakins. He had been employed by Kaiser Aluminum/Ravenswood Aluminum for more than 39 years, and was a member of the U.S.W.A. Local #5668. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Parkersburg V.F.W. Post #1212. He enjoyed raising Hereford Cattle, fox hunting, family vacations and the West Virginia Interstate Fair, where he served as a Board Member for more than 32 years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary E. Abbott Eakins of Mineral Wells; his children, Angela Eakins Zoller and Mike of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Philip Eakins and Laurie of Belpre, Ohio; his sisters, Carol Yoho and Barry of Mineral Wells and Shirley Davis and Frank of Parkersburg; his brothers, Robert Eakins and Linda of Vienna and Roger Eakins and Luann of Parkersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Eakins.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Rev. David Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
