ATHENS — Athens County Sheriff’s Department released the following reports and charges on Feb. 19 and 20.

Feb. 15

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office received a report of theft on Route 50 near Albany. The caller reported that items taken included two bale spears, tools and chains.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Vore Ridge Road in Athens for a report of property damage. Deputies made contact with the complainant who advised that a vehicle struck a fence in his yard last week. This case is pending further investigation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Garfield Street in New Marshfield for a report of a burglary. Deputies made contact with the complainant who advised his son broke into his house. The complainant advised his son was making statements that people were after him and wanted to kill him. The complainant wished not to pursue criminal charges and wanted his son to get help. Deputies transported the male to O’Bleness Hospital for an evaluation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Liars Corner Road in Millfield for a harassment complaint. The adult complainant stated that her biological mother had been following and harassing her through multiple states and was refusing to heed her requests to leave her alone. Deputies spoke with the mother via telephone and advised her of her daughter’s requests to be left alone. The daughter was then referred to the Athens County Victim’s Advocate’s Office for further assistance with what to do if the menacing behavior did not cease and additional action needed to be taken.

Feb. 16

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office was called to N. Plains Road in The Plains for an intrusion alarm. Upon arrival, deputies located an open door. The building was searched, and no suspects were located. This case is under further investigation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a harassment complaint in The Plains that occurred through Facebook. The complainant was advised to block the subject and to call if contact continues.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a male who advised he was receiving threatening text messages and phone calls from two people he knew. At this time, he just wanted a report on file, and did not want contact to be made with the two individuals.

* The Criminal Interdiction Unit initiated a traffic stop on State Route 78 in Glouster for a moving violation. Deputies deployed the K9 that indicated on the vehicle. Contact was made with a passenger, Shawn McKee, 28, from Crooksville, who had an active warrant for his arrest for child support through Athens County. McKee was searched and marijuana was located and seized. McKee was transported to SEORJ without incident.

* The Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 33. Upon making contact with the driver, the driver admitted to being in possession of marijuana. The vehicle was then searched. Numerous containers of marijuana were located and seized as evidence.

Feb. 17

* The Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 33 for vehicle defect. Upon making contact with the driver, the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the inside of the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle marijuana was located. The driver was cited for marijuana possession. OSHP was requested to assist and placed the male under arrest for OVI.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Robinson Road in Athens area in reference to an abandoned vehicle at a cell phone tower. Upon deputies arrival, they observed two subjects inside of the vehicle asleep. Deputies made contact with the male and female subject. The male subject, David Grubbs, 32, of Glouster, had an active warrant for his arrest; however, there was no jail space to incarcerate him. Grubbs was released and advised to appear in court. During the investigation, deputies observed criminal indicators and obtained verbal consent to search the vehicle. Drug paraphernalia with narcotics residue on it was located and these items were seized and sent to BCI Lab for testing. Both subjects were released and advised to clear the area.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a domestic dispute at a Brimstone Road house in Coolville. While deputies were en route, the suspect left the residence. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke to the complainants, and photographs of the property damage were taken. The suspect was injured during the dispute possibly requiring medical attention. Deputies checked area hospitals and another address for the suspect with no contact. If no contact is made with the suspect, a warrant will be requested.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to N. Akron Avenue in Buchtel for a report of an assault. Deputies spoke with the complainant who advised an ex-boyfriend had come into her home looking for keys and held her down on the bed causing pain to her neck. Deputies photographed the reported injury, and this case remains under investigation.

Feb. 18

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Connett Road in Nelsonville for a report of criminal damaging. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the complainant who advised someone cut a tire on his vehicle.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle for a moving violation. During the investigation, it was found that both occupants did not have a valid driver’s license. Deputies obtained consent to search the vehicle and recovered suspected methamphetamine. The evidence was seized and sent to a lab for testing. Charges are expected pending BCI lab results.

Feb. 19

* The Criminal Interdiction Unit along with the Athens County Special Response Team and The Major Crimes Unit conducted a search warrant at 13242 Carr Road in Nelsonville. During the investigation, two bulk amounts of methamphetamine and heroin were located along with several drug paraphernalia items. Seized items indicated drug trafficking was taking place within the residence. Jacob Smith, 33, of Nelsonville, was arrested for two counts of drug possession. Jordan Smith, 30, of Nelsonville, was arrested for an outstanding dog registration warrant. Stephanie Jones-Smith, 34, of Athens, was arrested for two outstanding child support warrants and was transported to Athens County Common Pleas Court. Additional charges are expected pending indictments.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office received a report of criminal damaging in the Columbus Road area. A worker at an apartment complex reported his tires were slashed in the parking lot and a witness can ID the suspect. A report was taken, and case is being investigated.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a recent phone scam. The complainant stated she was called by someone claiming to be from the IRS and was advised to load money onto gift cards. This case will be documented.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office met with a complainant referencing items stolen from a vehicle. Deputies collected a statement from the victim who was able to provide a list of suspects and evidence relating to the theft. The matter is under investigation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Vore Ridge Road for a report of criminal damaging. Deputies arrived on scene and located a vehicle in the complainant’s yard. Deputies observed no one around the vehicle and requested the vehicle to be towed. This case is pending further investigation.

ATHENS — Athens County Sheriff’s Department released the following reports on Feb. 22.

Feb. 21

* Tanner Vermillion, 20, of Coshocton had several active warrants; therefore he was arrested and transported to SEORJ.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office took a report from a Happy Hollow Road resident claiming phone harassment by an individual mainly by text and photo messages.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Stone Road in Athens for a report of a suicide attempt. Deputies spoke with the person in question, confirmed they were having suicidal thoughts and transported them to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital for an evaluation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a counterfeit $100 bill that was found on Ellis Avenue in Chauncey. The bill was collected and placed into evidence.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Factory Road for a trespass complaint. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the homeowner who advised an individual came onto his property and threatened him. This case is pending further investigation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Jordan Run Road in Coolville for a report of a theft. This case is pending further investigation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office took a report of property damage from a vehicle on New Floodwood Road in Nelsonville. Photographs and a report were taken at the scene. The case is under investigation.

* Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to South Canaan Road in Guysville for a report of a person acting erratically. Deputies made contact with Clayton Nelson, 20, of Athens, and he was found to have a warrant for his arrest. He was placed under arrest and transported to SEORJ without incident.
