ATHENS, Ohio — On Dec. 21 the following reports were released by the Athens County Sheriff’s Department:

Dec. 20

* The Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Chauncey in reference to two syringes being located outside of a business. The syringes were collected and placed in a “Sharps” container.

* Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 7 South St., The Plains, for an active dispute. Upon arriving on scene and speaking to the involved parties, it was found Damon M. Smith had an active arrest warrant out of Athens County. Smith, 18, was placed under arrest and transported to the Southeaster Ohio Regional Jail.

* Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched the Guysville Storage units Ohio 329, Guysville, on report of a suspicious male checking all the locks on the buildings. Upon arriving on scene, deputies located the man in an unlocked empty storage unit. The male was identified as Aaron Smith, 25, of Stewart, Ohio. He was found to have an active arrest warrant out of Athens County. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

* Sheriff’s deputies were called to Wingrove Road, Athens, for an activated alarm on the property. There were no signs of forced entry or foul play.

* Sheriff’s deputies were called to Chauncey for a report of suspicious behavior between a male in a red van and a female on foot. The caller said it appeared to have been a dispute although no violence was observed. The parties were unable to be located upon patrol of the area and were not identified by the complainant. At this time without a report from the involved parties, this case is closed.

ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Dec. 22:

* On Dec. 21, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a verbal dispute on Columbus Road. Involved parties agreed to not have any further contact with each other for the remainder of the night.

* On Dec. 21, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Ohio Valley Trading and Exchange, in reference to an activated business alarm. Upon arrival, deputies checked the business and all windows and doors were secure. No further actions were needed.

* On Dec. 21, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sand Ridge in reference to an activated residential alarm. Upon arrival, deputies checked the residence and all windows and doors were secure. No further actions were needed.

* On Dec. 21, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Simms Road for a theft report. Deputies were advised two vehicles were entered and $100 worth of clothing was stolen. With insufficient evidence and lack of suspects in the case, this report is closed pending further information.

* On Dec. 21, a male from Torch Road reported that a tenant at one of his rental properties had stolen a “for sale by owner” sign out of the yard. Contact was made with the tenant, who stated that the sign had been moved for some yard work and would be replaced immediately. No further action needed.

* On Dec. 21, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office while on patrol in The Plains observed what appeared to be a suspicious vehicle at The Plains car wash. Deputies made contact with the vehicle, along with the occupants, who had been waiting on a friend’s response before going to his house. Deputies made contact with the friend, who verified this information.

* On Dec. 21, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to State Route 13 for a juvenile problem. Deputies were advised a 17-year-old female was refusing to leave with her guardian. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the juvenile who advised she did not wish to live with her grandmother, instead live with her boyfriend. Deputies assisted the grandmother with retrieving her from the residence without incident. No further action requested.
