Washington Sheriff

MARIETTA — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Nov. 3:

* On Oct. 31, Sgt. McGilton responded to 314 Harmar St., Marietta, in reference to a complaint of a deceased rabbit in a small cage at the rear of the residence. Upon arrival, Elizabeth Biggins exited the residence and advised she resided at this location and was the owner of the rabbits. Sgt. McGilton observed five cages with a rabbit in each, but three of the rabbits were deceased. The three deceased rabbits were in different stages of decomposition.

There were two other cages in a row across from the five cages and those cages each contained one rabbit as well. The cages were filthy and only one of the cages contained food, which was one of the cages that contained a deceased rabbit, the sheriff’s department said. Only three of the cages contained water. There was a tarp on the ground that appeared to have been used to cover the rabbit cages; however, the tarp had been on the ground for some time as it was covered with dirt and leaves. The rabbits had no shelter or bedding inside the cages. Due to the circumstances, Sgt. McGilton requested a summons be issued to Elizabeth Biggins, 25, 314 Harmar St., Marietta, for animal cruelty.

* On Nov. 2, Deputy Johnson observed Frederick McKitrick operating a black Ford truck. Deputy Johnson was aware of an active warrant on file and attempted to make contact with McKitrick. Deputy Johnson then observed McKitrick’s vehicle enter the parking lot of Marathon and pulled behind the vehicle; however, upon the deputy approaching the driver’s side, McKitrick had absconded. Deputy Johnson checked around the business and was soon advised that a male was running in the area of Applebee’s. Deputy Johnson witnessed McKitrick crossing Pike Street and entering the Big Lots parking lot. Deputy Johnson proceeded to the area in question and caught up to McKitrick as he was running into Bridgeport Equipment.

McKitrick entered the business with Deputy Johnson immediately behind him at which time he voluntarily turned himself in, was handcuffed and searched. McKitrick advised Deputy Johnson that he had a needle in the front of his pants, which was retrieved. While being searched at the jail a small baggie of suspected meth was located in his pockets as well. The total weight was found to be 1.12 grams. Frederick Gale McKitrick, 35, 7446 Federal Road, Cutler, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug abuse instrument and obstructing official business. McKitrick was also served the warrant for theft.
