Athens Sheriff

ATHENS, Ohio — On Dec. 13 the Athens County Sheriff’s Department released the following reports:

* On Dec. 9, deputies responded to an active fight on First Street in The Plains. Deputies located the suspects and arrested two individuals for domestic violence. Leon Reed, 38, of The Plains, and Daisey Holley, 36, of Nelsonville, were transported to South East Ohio Regional Jail to await arraignment in Athens Municipal Court. This case remains active with no further details at this time.

* On Dec. 9, a male came into the Athens County Sheriff’s Office to report the theft of his credit card. The complainant stated that his credit card was left in his vehicle and did not know when the card was taken. This case is still under further investigation.

* On Dec. 9, a dispute occurred on State Route 329, Amesville, in which Samantha Milliken, 21, struck her husband repeatedly with her fists and a compound bow and attempted to stab him with the arrows. When deputies arrived on scene Milliken became immediately combative with deputies and had to be taken into custody. Milliken was transported to South East Ohio Regional Jail and charged with domestic violence.

* On Dec. 9, a loud noise complaint was reported at the Oak Ridge Apartments in Athens. The responding deputy made contact with the party that was being loud and they were advised to be quieter. No further action required.

* On Dec. 9, a report came in of excessive speed in the area of May Avenue, Chauncey. The area was patrolled but no reckless driving was observed at that time. The case is closed.

* On Dec. 10, deputies were dispatched to the area of the Chauncey Marathon on a report of suspicious person and vehicle. The area was patrolled but the vehicle was not located. The case is closed.

* On Dec. 10, deputies were dispatched to a Carbondale residence in Nelsonville for a suspicious person report. The caller stated their neighbor was walking around the neighborhood with a flashlight. On scene, contact was made with the neighbor who stated he believed someone had taken some lumber from him but he wasn’t sure. He advised he saw a truck drive by and he was out looking for it. Deputies patrolled the area but found no such vehicle. The man advised he would stay inside the remainder of the evening and would contact deputies if he required assistance. No further action was taken.

* On Dec. 10, deputies were dispatched to the Vanderhoof Church on an activated front door alarm. Dispatch advised they had no contact with any key holder. A short time later while en route, dispatch advised units to disregard advising a key holder called stating to cancel due to a group using the church could not deactivate the alarm properly. He advised he would call if there was any further assistance needed. The case is closed.

* On Dec. 10, a female came to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office to file a theft report. The complainant stated that her vehicle was broken into and two debit cards were taken. With no known suspects, this case will be closed pending further investigatory information.

* On Dec. 10, deputies were dispatched to a West Second Street, The Plains, residence a report of a suspicious vehicle. Dispatch advised the caller confronted the vehicle to see what they were doing and resulted in an argument where the passenger threw a beer bottle at the caller but did miss contact. Upon deputies arriving in the area, the vehicle had left and deputies patrolled for the vehicle with no contact. A report has been taken on this matter.

* On Dec. 10, deputies were dispatched to Ohio 78 between Buchtel and Hollister for multiple reports of gunshots in the area and several vehicles speeding through the area. All involved parties were located and interviewed. This matter remains under investigation by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

* On Dec. 10, the Athens County Criminal Interdiction unit conducted a traffic stop on State Route 56 in Athens. While on the stop, K9 Bora indicated to the odor of narcotics. Upon searching the vehicle, narcotics were located as well as several items related to the use of narcotics. Jessica Hutchins, 30, of Athens, was arrested for an active warrant from Athens and Kevin Morris, 44, of Nelsonville, was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance. Throughout the course of the investigation, several items from a reported case of theft were also located. Additional charges are pending lab results and investigation of the theft case. This case is ongoing with no further details at this time.

* On Dec. 10, deputies took a report of a breaking and entering of a residence on Fourth Street, The Plains. Everything that was reported stolen was documented and a written statement was provided to the responding deputy by the complainant. This case is currently under investigation.

* On Dec. 10, a report came in of a disputed dog. The caller stated that she allowed her friend to care for the dog for a while during her move and that tonight after an argument she wanted the dog back. Contact was made with the friend who stated that she had the dog for over a month and that the dog was given to her as a gift and nothing had been said to the contrary until the argument tonight. Parties were advised that the situation was civil in nature and no legal action would be taken, they were further encouraged to make sure all dogs had the appropriate tags. The case is closed.

* On Dec. 11, deputies responded to the Trimble Township Water Treatment Facility for an active alarm. After a check of the facility grounds, everything was determined to be secure and in order. The matter was considered a false alarm. Deputies then returned to patrol. No further action taken.

* On Dec. 11, deputies were dispatched to Athens Towing on Ohio 550 for a report of a vehicle fire. Deputies arrived on scene after the Chauncey-Dover Volunteer Fire Department secured the scene. Photographs were taken of the vehicle, and a report was filled. At this time there is no evidence of criminal activity. Units then cleared the scene.

* On Dec. 11, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft complaint on Canaanville Road in Athens. After speaking with the involved parties, no evidence was found to support the allegation. Case closed.

* On Dec. 11, deputies were dispatched to an Oregon Ridge Road residence, Glouster, on an activated alarm. Deputies arrived on scene and found the residence to be secure with no signs of tampering. Deputies cleared the area and returned to patrol.

* On Dec. 11, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hunterdon Road in Hollister in reference to a harassment complaint. The caller stated he was going to his mother’s house when he noticed he was being chased by a champagne colored station wagon. When he pulled into his mother’s driveway, the car continued to the next driveway slamming on the brakes and sliding to a stop. The driver then got out of the vehicle and threatened to do physical harm to him for threatening his father. The complainant stated he didn’t know who the person was yelling at him but he eventually left the area. The case is closed.

* On Dec. 11, deputies were dispatched to a Monserat Ridge Road address in Millfield, for a report of a verbal dispute. Upon arriving on scene, it was found that one of the involved persons had already left. Deputies spoke to persons remaining on scene and the matter was resolved with the other involved person in the argument leaving as well. Matter was found to be a verbal dispute only. No further action, case is closed.

* On Dec. 11, the Athens Count Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had a fictitious registration. Upon making contact with the driver, it was found they did not have a valid registration. The driver was released and the vehicle was towed.

* On Dec. 11, deputies were called to Bessemer Road, Buchtel, for an active fight. The caller advised that they were having a birthday party when his father-in-law starting trying to fight multiple persons at the party. None of the involved parties wish to purse any criminal charges. A trespass complaint was served to the father-in-law. No further action needed at this time.

* On Dec. 11, deputies responded to Tomoko Trailer Park in The Plains for a well being check. Once on scene, it was found that the occupant of the trailer had fallen inside her trailer and was not able to move or get to the door to unlock it. Entry was made to the house and the female was transported to O’Bleness Hospital by EMS. No further action required.

* On Dec. 11, deputies responded to Hebbardsville Road in Athens for an alarm at one of the businesses on that street. The building was found to be secured and it was determined to be a false alarm.

* On Dec. 11, deputies were called to Alderman Road, Millfield, for a suicidal male. The caller advised that her boyfriend had been making threats all day to harm himself and that he made threats to harm the animals inside the residence. The male had an active warrant out of Athens County. Roger Winchell, 22, of Millfield, was arrested on his warrant and transported to SEORJ without further incident. No further action needed at this time.

* On Dec. 11, deputies were dispatched to Rock Street in Coolville, for a well being check. Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the reported party who ensured that everything was OK. The case is closed.

* On Dec. 11, deputies responded to the Huckleberry Road, Coolville area, in reference to an active dispute. Prior to arrival, the suspect had fled the area. The complainant advised there was a verbal argument that came close to turning physical but did not. Parties had separated and no further actions were needed.

* On Dec. 13, deputies made contact with a male at the Buckley Brothers Gas Station in The Plains who was cold and unable to care for himself. Deputies assisted by transporting the male to his mother’s residence in Jacksonville. Units then resumed patrol.
