ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Sept. 6:
• On Sept. 5, a deputy on patrol on Ohio 682 encountered an animal struck by a vehicle in the roadway. It was observed that said animal was injured significantly and the possibility of recovery was very near zero. To ease the animal’s suffering, it was quickly dispatched.
• On Sept. 5, deputies took a missing person report by phone. The missing subject was last seen in the Stewart area, according to the complainant. Deputies spoke to the residents at the given address and determined that the missing subject had been in court on the day of this report. Anyone with information on Cory Brown is asked to contact the sheriff’s office. This case remains under investigation.
• On Sept. 5, a report of possible identity theft was taken. The complainant advised someone attempted to use her bank information in the Virginia Beach, Va., area. She stated that all appropriate measures were taken to change her information, and no charges were made to her account. This report was filed for information purposes at this time, and the case was closed.
• On Sept. 5, deputies responded to a residence on Lightner Road in reference to a well-being check. The individual would not answer the door and could not be seen from outside. The area was patrolled on foot in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the individual. Ultimately the home was entered and found to be empty. Several family members were advised of the situation. Deputies assisted efforts to locate the individual who was believed to simply have walked away from the home.
