Veterans Park set to host one-day festival

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Commission has approved the use of Veterans Park near the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport for the Sept. 14 Festival of Art, Music and Motion.

The festival was originally scheduled to be held at West Virginia University at Parkersburg, but construction and other issues prompted organizers to find a different location this year, organizer Jean Ambrose said. Ambrose said plans are to hold the festival at WVU-P next year.

“It is a one-day thing,” Ambrose said. “It is to promote positive relationships and interconnection among people in the community. It is a way to define things by our strengths instead of the things people struggle with.”

City Park in Parkersburg also was recommended, she said.

“We are looking for a more outdoor, nature related venue,” Ambrose said.

The commission also waived the fee for Veterans Park.

Among the activities are entertainment and a fire pit, Ambrose said.

“This is youth oriented and we are having a lot of youth, music and bands,” Ambrose said. “Having a fire is part of being outside.”

About 200 people are expected, Ambrose said. Organizers will police the grounds the following day.
