Belpre Homecoming Committee rallying support for festival

BELPRE — The Belpre Homecoming Committee is seeking vendors, crafters, runners and walkers, motorcycle and classic car owners, pageant contestants, fishermen and sponsors for the 87th Homecoming scheduled Aug. 1-3 at Civitan Park.

Applications are now available, according to Belpre Homecoming coordinator Natalie Bradley. Tickets for the annual Duck Pluck fundraiser for Belpre Homecoming also are available, she said.

Corporations, businesses, non-profits or individuals are encouraged to choose a sponsorship level and support the free community event. Information about sponsorship opportunities is available by calling 740 860-9876.

The Belpre Homecoming Pageant seeks children and youth to represent Belpre at civic functions and local events, and the pageants are a highlight of the Belpre Homecoming. Contests include Little Mister ages 5-8 on Aug. 1, Little Miss ages 5-8 on Aug. 1, Junior Miss ages 9-12 on Aug. 2, Miss Teen Belpre ages 13-16 on Aug. 2, and Miss Belpre ages 17-20 on Aug. 3.

The 2019 Belpre Homecoming Pretty Baby & Toddler Contest will be held July 27 at Rockland United Methodist Church. Baby Miss and Mister will be 10 a.m. for 0-11 months old, 11 a.m. for Tiny Miss and Mister 1-2 years old and noon for Toddler Miss and Mister 3-4 years old. Pageant information is available from Pageants Coordinator Danielle Dowler at 304-966-4468.

Non-profit and commercial food providers, vendors and crafters will be present throughout the weekend. Bradley encourages anyone interested in being a vendor to contact her for applications and guidelines.

Crafters and home-based businesses will showcase their products at the Homecoming Craft show. Applications for a booth or space can be picked up at the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce, 713 Park Drive, belprechamber.com or by calling Homecoming Committee at 740-350-9876.

Bikers for Christ Southeast Ohio Chapter will roll into Civitan Park with a bike show 6 p.m. Aug. 1 for the second year free and open to the public. Pre-registration is $10 per bike and $15 at the event. Registration forms will be posted to the Chamber website.

A car Cruise-in will roll into Civitan Park on Aug. 2, starting at 5 p.m., by the Pioneer Antique Auto Club and Leavitt Funeral Services as sponsor.

Excitement is building for the Chamber’s eighth annual Duck Pluck Fundraiser, which offers cash prizes to lucky winners whose ducks are plucked from all entries on Aug. 3 at the main stage. A $5 ticket a chance to win cash prizes totaling $1,000. Five tickets are $20. Sponsor is Riverview Credit Union.

Tickets will be available prior to Homecoming at any Riverview location, on the Homecoming grounds, at the Chamber office and from any Belpre High School Alumni Association member.

The Belpre Mile Road Race, sponsored by Memorial Health System, will be held the morning of Aug. 3. For information and registration information, call the Chamber at 740-350-9876 or visit the website.

The Buddy Bass Tournament and Kids Fishing Derby will be held Aug. 3 with $2,500 guaranteed cash prizes for Buddy Bass and prizes and trophies for children. The event is presented by Frontier Bassmasters. Call Tim Williams at 304-422-7835 for details.

The Chamber of Commerce, the Belpre Homecoming Committee and the Belpre Lions Club will sponsor the 87th Homecoming parade 10 a.m. Aug. 3. Bands, floats, pageant winners, business, church and non-profit units will greet residents and homecoming visitors on Belpre’s streets. Parade applications are available at Belpre Municipal Building or on the website.

Never miss a chance to see puppies and adult pooches “show their stuff” with theme costumes, perfect grooming and just a desire to show off with their owners as Boxers Bed and Biscuits presents the second annual Puppy Contest on Aug. 3. Registration will start at noon at the gazebo in Civitan Park. Registration fee is $10. The contest begins at 12:30 pm.

Prizes include first and second places, with first place winner receiving a gift certificate to Boxers Bed and Biscuits and gift bags from Pet Supplies Plus while the second place winner will receive a gift certificate to Boxers Bed and Biscuits. Viewing the pageant is free. Registration is open the day of the pageant.
