87-year-old driver dies in collision on Ohio 260

NEW MATAMORAS — An 87-year-old Graysville, Ohio, man was killed Wednesday night in a two-vehicle crash on Ohio 260 near New Matamoras, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Robert Ryan was traveling east on Ohio 260 shortly after 10 p.m. when his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was struck by a vehicle driven by Joseph Barnes, 25, of New Matamoras, according to a release from the Highway Patrol. Barnes was headed west in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado when he went left of center and struck Ryan’s vehicle head-on, the patrol said.

Barnes was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Donald G. Hendershot, 57, of New Matamoras, a passenger in Ryan’s vehicle, also sustained serious injuries and was flown to a hospital by medical helicopter. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Ohio 260 was closed for five hours. The crash remains under investigation by the Marietta Post of the patrol.
