Wood County Relay for Life raises $96,000

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Relay for Life has so far raised more than $96,000.

The season for the event runs until Aug. 31, so the number will continue to climb, said Carmen Hathaway, senior community development manager for the American Cancer Society.

“Our total raised keeps growing every day,” she said.

Those funds support grants to researchers working on new medicines, treatments and screenings; American Cancer Society services like providing free rides to treatments and wigs; the local Cancer Resource Center at Camden Clark Medical Center; and more, Hathaway said.

The Wood County Relay took place on Saturday, May 18, with most events pushed back to that day from the preceding one due to concerns over thunderstorms. By the end of the activities that day, the event had exceeded its $76,900 goal.
