Wood County grand jury indicts murder suspect, dozens of others

PARKERSBURG — A man accused of killing his roommate after a fight and a suspect in a 2017 bank robbery are among 51 people indicted this week by the Wood County Grand Jury.

Joshua Emery Greene, 34, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County, was charged with one count of murder in the February death of Jason Tefft, 42, with whom he shared a residence at 809 Edgelawn St. in Parkersburg.

According to a criminal complaint, Greene was witnessed punching Tefft in the face on the porch of the residence. Early the following morning, Greene and another individual allegedly returned to the residence and Greene discovered Tefft had urinated on his bed. Greene allegedly struck Tefft in the face while he was sleeping then dragged him into the hallway and continued to hit and kick him, police said.

Tefft suffered a severe brain injury and died the following day.

Since his arrest on Feb. 19, Greene has been held without bond at the regional jail.

William E. Johnson, 54, currently in custody at the Pickaway Correctional Institution in Orient, Ohio, was indicted on charges of bank robbery and use or presentation of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Williamstown Police Chief Shawn Graham said Johnson was developed as a person of interest last year in the Oct. 31, 2017, robbery of the Williamstown Bank on Highland Avenue. A man in a Halloween mask entered the bank around 10:30 a.m., lifted his shirt to reveal what appeared to be a firearm and fled on foot.

Graham said his department worked with authorities in Ohio on the case.

“It was an extensive, exhaustive investigation,” he said.

Elle Anne Buck, 32, in custody at the regional jail, was indicted on one count of possessing a deadly weapon on the premises of an education facility.

A criminal complaint from Magistrate Court says that on Dec. 4, Buck pulled out a folding knife and opened it while speaking to the Emerson Elementary School principal inside the school, before dropping the knife and fleeing. She is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
