Three arrested on drug-related charges

MARIETTA — Three people were arrested on drug charges Tuesday following an investigation by agents of the Ohio Organized Crimes Investigations Commission, Washington Morgan Noble Major Crimes Task Force.

According to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Anthony James Curry, Clarissa Moira Dougherty and Janet Dawn Shaw were arrested on drug-related charges.

Curry, 30, 214 Wooster St., Apt. 2, Marietta, was placed under arrest for trafficking in methamphetamine over bulk but less than five times bulk, and permitting drug abuse, both fifth-degree felonies.

Dougherty, 24, 214 Wooster St., Apt. 2, Marietta, was placed under arrest for permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony.

Shaw, 45, 300 Phillips St., Marietta, was placed under arrest for trafficking of methamphetamine over bulk but less than five times bulk, a third-degree felony.

All were transported to the Washington County Jail for processing and an initial appearance in court was held on Wednesday, according to the release.

Shaw was being held on $30,000 bond, Curry on $50,000 bond and Dougherty on $1,500 bond.

At about 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, agents went to 214 Wooster St., Apartment 2, Marietta, to talk to individuals, officials said. While agents were speaking with Shaw she allegedly continued to reach into her pockets and purse after being asked not to do so several times, officials said.

Shaw was asked if agents could search her purse and she stated they could. Agents then allegedly located a syringe, digital scales, and two baggies of methamphetamine (4.39 grams), one baggie of heroin, numerous empty baggies and a notebook containing a drug ledger, officials said.

When Shaw was advised she was going to be arrested, she attempted to run and a short chase ensued before she was apprehended and placed in handcuffs, officials said.

Agents advised Dougherty of information they had been receiving about alleged drug trafficking and drug use at her residence. Dougherty said she had no knowledge of drug trafficking taking place and that no drugs were in her house, officials said.

Agents then asked Dougherty if she would voluntarily allow the residence to be searched, to which she stated she would, officials said.

Dougherty and agents conducted a brief walkthrough of the house at which time a baggie of suspected drugs (methamphetamine) and numerous types of drug paraphernalia (pipes) were observed in plain view, officials said.

Agents and Dougherty exited the residence and Dougherty was advised of the drugs and related items that were observed in plain view. Dougherty was asked if she would allow a more thorough search of her residence, at which time she declined, officials said. The residence was secured until a search warrant could be obtained.

At about 4:45 p.m., the search warrant was conducted at the residence. Agents located approximately 6.43 grams of methamphetamine in a vehicle which Curry had driven to the apartment, officials said. Agents also allegedly located numerous items of drug paraphernalia, plastic baggies and digital scales in Curry’s vehicle along with the apartment shared by him and Dougherty.

Curry allegedly admitted to being involved in the trafficking of methamphetamine and to allowing Shaw to sell drugs from his apartment, officials said.

Curry also allegedly admitted that he and Dougherty were daily users of methamphetamine and allowed people to come to their residence to use and/or sell drugs, officials said.
