Belpre High School principal on leave, retiring

BELPRE — Belpre High School Principal Dennis Eichinger is on leave and has filed notice of his retirement, according to Belpre City Schools Superintendent Jeff Greenley.

“Our principal recently announced he has resigned for retirement purposes, so he will be on leave for the remainder of the year,” Greenley said Wednesday. “When his contract expires, we will put in a new principal for next year.”

Greenley said Assistant Principal Stephanie Evans has been named acting principal through the end of the school year. Officials expect the change will cause no issues with graduation or the final weeks of school, which ends May 22.

“I have every confidence in Stephanie and we will have a smooth close to the school year,” Greenley said.

Greenley said Eichinger was hired as BHS principal in 2011.

“His work was exemplary. He was a true Golden Eagle in every sense,” Greenley said. “We wish him all the best.”

Eichinger could not immediately be reached for comment.

Greenley said the retirement was not included on Monday’s Belpre Board of Education agenda because the official letter was not received until Tuesday.
