Magnolia loses in the first round of West Virginia Girls State Basketball Tournament
Parkersburg Catholic takes the court at 1 p.m., PHS at 7 p.m.
CHARLESTON – Magnolia High School’s Mady Winters scored 45 points during the Blue Eagles’ 65-57 loss to Morgantown Trinity Christian School in the first round of West Virginia Girls State Basketball Tournament today.
Winters, who stands 6-foot-3 and is a sophomore, scored the 45 points by making 20 of 23 field goal attempts and five of eight free throws.
During the game, she surpassed the 1,000 points career mark with two seasons left before graduation. She also had 12 rebounds in the game.
Winters tallied 23 first-half points, making 10 of 11 field goal attempts.
Kyndra Pilant had 9 points and led Magnolia with 15 rebounds.
Trinity’s Reagan Sharp scored 40 points, making 13 of 22 shots, made 12 of 14 free throws and had 10 steals.
Magnolia finishes the season with a 17-9 record. The Blue Eagles defeated the Warriors 54-49 in the regular season.
The win puts Trinity against today’s 1 p.m. game between Parkersburg Catholic and Summers County.
Parkersburg High School plays Hampshire County at 7 p.m.
