Belpre Board of Education to meet Monday

BELPRE — Belpre City Schools Superintendent Jeff Greenley will present information on revamping how the district prepares students for graduation at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.

The meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Stone Administration Building at 2014 Rockland Ave. The meeting is open to the public.

Greenley, who began as superintendent last month, said Friday he plans to talk to board members, educators and community members concerning the “dramatically changing landscape” of public education.

“The community is changing, technology is changing, workforce needs are changing,” he said. “We need to start thinking what does that mean for us in our schools here in Belpre and how do we prepare our students for that increasingly competitive world.”

Greenley said Monday’s presentation will act as a kick-off to a series of public presentations and discussions.

“Our intent is to take that presentation over the next two months across the community and to present it to all of the stakeholders in Belpre,” he said.

Greenley said he plans to form a committee which will look at the “portrait of a graduate” of Belpre City Schools.

“What do we want our kids to look like when they leave our schools?” he said. “Not just the content that is being taught, but what are the mindsets, the dispositions and the skills we want them to have after 13 years in Belpre City Schools.”

Greenley said the information to be presented Monday is heavily based off information from Battelle for Kids, an educational think-tank based in Columbus.

In addition to the presentation, the board also will consider and approve monthly financial matters, personnel changes, tax rates for fiscal year 2019-20 which begins July 1, and the 2019-20 school calendar.
