VIENNA — Hundreds of Mid-Ohio Valley residents started their Saturday with a pancake breakfast at the Vienna Civitan Club’s annual fundraiser at the Vienna Community Building in Jackson Memorial Park.

The club has held the breakfast for more than 50 years.

The cost was $5 for all-you-could-eat pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee and milk.

According to Mike Flanagan, president of the Vienna Civitan Club, it typically raises between $800 and $1,000. All of the money raised at the club’s fundraising events goes towards Civitan community projects.

“We’ve done flower beds and flag projects on all major holidays and put out the American flag for all area businesses that wanted them,” Flanagan said.

The Civitan Club also works closely with those in the community that are physically or mentally handicapped. Flanagan said the pancake event has kept growing over the years, and they look forward to bringing it back every year.

“Civitan is a volunteer service organization for anybody over 18,” Flanagan said.

The Civitan Club of Vienna even had some extra hands helping out at Saturday’s event.

“We have assisting us (Saturday) our Junior Civitan Club from Jackson Middle School,” he said.

“The Junior Civitan Club includes kids who are in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.”
