Police: Roommate fight leaves one man dead
PARKERSBURG — A fight between two roommates in Parkersburg has left one man dead and the other facing charges.
On Friday, the Parkersburg Police Department responded to 809 Edgelawn St. in reference to a battery complaint. Officers arrived on scene along with EMS personnel and located a male subject who was unresponsive.
The male subject was identified as Jason Tefft, 42, who resided at this residence. Tefft was transported to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center for treatment.
Parkersburg Police Detectives were called to the scene to further the criminal investigation, as the status of the victim was critical, said Police Chief Joe Martin. Detectives interviewed potential witnesses who had information about the events between Tefft and his roommate leading up to police arrival on this date.
The initial information revealed that Tefft had been involved in two separate altercations with his roommate — one on Thursday and a second fight in the early morning hours on Friday, Martin said.
A search warrant was obtained to search the residence at 809 Edgelawn St. to collect evidence to be used in criminal prosecution, Martin said.
Tefft died Saturday from the injuries he sustained during the fight with his roommate, turning this case into a homicide investigation, Martin said. An autopsy is scheduled for today at the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Charleston. Detectives will observe the exam to obtain additional information and potential evidence to aid in the proper prosecution of this case, Martin said.
The suspect in this case, whose name was not released Monday, is known to the detectives working the investigation, Martin said. At the conclusion of the autopsy, a criminal complaint will be obtained, he said.
