Chemours donates $10K to Blennerhassett Island Historical Foundation
PARKERSBURG — A local chemical company has contributed $10,000 to the Blennerhassett Island Historical Foundation.
The funds, presented on Wednesday to the foundation Board of Directors, will be used for the preservation of Blennerhassett Island.
“The island hosts thousands of visitors each year and is an important part of our heritage story. This substantial contribution will go a long way toward continuing our efforts to preserve and enhance historic assets on the island,” said Mark Lewis, chief executive officer of the Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and president of the Blennerhassett Foundation.
Chemours, in the spin-off from DuPont, assumed ownership of Blennerhassett Island in 2015. The company maintains water wells on the island and leases the upper third of the Ohio River island to the state of West Virginia for use as a park for $1 a year.
“As owners of the island, we are pleased to partner with the foundation to protect and promote the story and the history of this treasure,” said Bob Fehrenbacher, Chemours plant manager.
The presentation of the ceremonial check was made at the Blennerhassett Museum.
“On behalf of the tremendous volunteers who make up the ‘Friends of Blennerhassett’ and the Blennerhassett Foundation, the foundation board of directors would like to express our deepest thanks to Chemours,” Lewis said.
