West Virginia early voting numbers increase

Early voting period ends today at 5 p.m.

PARKERSBURG — Early voting numbers have increased in West Virginia compared to the mid-term election four years ago, said the West Virginia secretary of state.

As of Thursday morning, 121,679 West Virginians voted or turned in an absentee ballot for the 2018 mid-term election, Secretary of State Mac Warner said. The total is about 24,000 more than the 2014 mid-term election.

“We have been very pleased with the progress of early voting and the detailed preparations taking place for election day by the county clerks and the professionals in their offices,” Warner said.

Wood County Clerk Mark Rhodes this week said early voting turnout in Wood County has been around 12 percent, lower than the 2016 presidential election, but much higher than the 2014 mid-term election. In 2014, 3,773 people used early voting in the general election.
