Two killed in Meigs County fire

POMEROY — Authorities in Meigs County are investigating a fire that killed two people Wednesday night, according to the Ohio fire marshal.

The fire was reported at 9:22 p.m. and occurred at 30762 Old Dexter Road in Salem Township, Brian Bohnert, public information officer for the fire marshal, said. The site is about 12 miles west of Pomeroy near Langsville.

Identification of the people killed was unavailable. An investigator from the fire marshal’s office was at the fire scene on Thursday morning to determine a cause and location, Bohnert said.

The fire is going to be ruled undetermined, Bohnert said.

“I can confirm there was a propane explosion inside the structure, but the ignition source, as well as the reason for the buildup of propane, is going to be undetermined due to the extensive damage,” he said.
