Crews respond to downtown Parkersburg fire

PARKERSBURG — A building located at 806 A Avery St. in downtown Parkersburg caught on fire Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Jody Casto, with the PFD, said cause of the fire was still under investigation.

“There was no one in the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries while putting it out,” he said.

Casto said the fire was reported at 3:48 p.m. Saturday and Engine Two with the PFD was on scene two minutes later when smoke and flames could be seen coming from the second floor.

The fire was contained wholly on the second floor, and was under control by 4:30 p.m., he said.

The building, which is owned by the Grace Brethren Church, sustained an estimated $60,000 worth of damage, according to Casto.

Camden Clark Ambulance Service and the Parkersburg Police Department responded on scene with the fire department.
