Parkersburg church offering pet blessings today

PARKERSBURG — Trinity Episcopal Church will offer blessings to pets this afternoon in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.

Located at 430 Juliana St., Trinity will offer blessings to all animals that show up to receive the special blessing, the Parkersburg church said.

Blessings begin at 2:30 p.m. in an event that brings together humans with their furry, feathery and sometimes scaly pets.

The event is in recognition of St. Francis of the Assisi. St. Francis was known as the patron saint of animals. He was canonized as a saint on July 16, 1228.

During his life he developed a deep love of nature and animals and also is known as the patron saint of the environment. His life and words have had a lasting impact across the globe, the church said. Each October, animals across the world are blessed on his day of feast.
