West Virginia residents can report stream blockages

CHARLESTON — Due to the potential for high water and stream blockages in the coming days, anyone with a blockage impacting their home or property that’s caused by Hurricane Florence is encouraged to call 1-866-UC-FLOOD (823-5663) to report it to the West Virginia Conservation Agency.

The agency’s Emergency Watershed Protection program is used during a state or federal emergency declaration in response to a sudden disaster.

In cases of extreme flooding, the agency will work with local, state and federal authorities to determine the extent of flood-related damages and to relieve blockages from streams. Woody debris, vegetation and any other items found blocking streams may be removed if eligible.

The State Emergency Operations Center under the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has been activated in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. Multiple state agencies are preparing to respond to the hurricane’s impacts on West Virginia.

For more information go to visit wvca.us where the stream blockage reporting line also will be posted.

The West Virginia Conservation Agency’s provides and promotes the protection and conservation of soil, land, water and related resources.
