Two structure fires under investigation

PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Fire Department responded Monday morning to two structure fires within a short distance of each other in Parkersburg.

Capt. Jim Tracewell said the first call came in at 5:52 a.m. Monday about a structure on fire at 1325 Highland Ave.

Firefighters arrived to find the two-story structure fully involved, he said. The property is unoccupied and abandoned, but the initial call included possible entrapment because homeless people had been reported to be using the structure.

Tracewell said nothing was found by firefighters in that regard.

The Highland Avenue structure was deemed a total loss.

Tracewell said the second fire was reported at 6:25 a.m. Monday at 1335 Latrobe St., two blocks from the first scene. The one-story stucture sustained heavy damage and also may be deemed a total loss before the investigation is complete, he said.

Tracewell said the occuptants of the Latrobe Street scene were not at home at the time the fire was reported and were at the Highland Avenue scene observing firefighting efforts there when the report came in regarding their residence.

Some of the units from the first scene and members of the oncoming shift at the fire department responded to the Latrobe Sreet fire.

Tracewell said both fires were still under investigation. Reports were still being completed Monday and the owner of the Latrobe Street property was not available, he said. No injuries were reported with either fire.
