Three hospitalized from house fire in Lowell

LOWELL — Three people were injured in a house fire in Lowell early Monday morning.

Lowell-Adams Volunteer Fire Department Chief Josh Harris said the department was called out at 4:08 a.m. Monday on a report of smoke coming out of a house at 307 Fourth St. Harris said a fire truck arrived within two minutes and reported smoke and flames coming out of the house.

Three people were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital, he said, and one remained in critical condition Monday afternoon. The people injured in the fire were all adults, he said, and one was later transported to Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.

Harris said the homeowner was Donna Patrick.

The house was deemed a total loss, he said, and a dog perished in the fire.

The Lowell-Adams department was assisted by Beverly fire and EMS and Devola fire units, Harris said.

“We fought that fire for about two hours,” he said. “It got up in the attic; it was a tough fire to fight.”

No neighboring structures were damaged, he said.

The fire was thought to have started in the laundry room, but the cause is still under investigation.

The house had one smoke detector, but it was not known whether it was working, he said.
