Parkersburg man accused of sexual abuse, theft
PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man is accused of inappropriately touching an employee and stealing items from workers at a local motel.
Christopher Michael Bailey, 39, of 1000 Kemper St., Apt. 6, Parkersburg, was arrested Monday on charges of first-degree sexual abuse and breaking and entering after Wood County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Travelodge on Seventh Street in Parkersburg in response to a man allegedly following housekeepers and trying to grab them, according to a criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court.
A deputy found Bailey standing near the laundry room, according to the court complaint. He reportedly said he had asked a housekeeper for a cigarette and was waiting to be let back in his room. Another deputy made contact with a woman staying in the same room as Bailey, who advised she had locked him out of the room because he was being “obnoxious,” the complaint said.
A housekeeper told the first deputy she had been in the employees-only laundry room when Bailey entered and refused to leave, the complaint said. He stood in the door to prevent her from leaving then groped her, according to the complaint.
The housekeeper was able to lock herself in a bathroom, but Bailey allegedly tried to force his way inside. She eventually was able to flee the laundry room and call other employees for help, the complaint said.
Another housekeeper reported that she saw Bailey exiting the laundry room and he thanked her “for the soda and stuff,” the complaint said. She told police her cigarettes and soda had been taken from the laundry room.
Bailey was in custody at the North Central Regional Jail on a $30,000 surety bond.
