BELPRE — A hydrocarbon leak at Kraton Polymers caused a small fire Monday, but officials say no one was injured and there was no impact to the community.

David Mongilio, plant manager for Kraton in Belpre, said the leak and fire occurred around 10:55 a.m. Monday, and the fire was extinguished by 12:30 p.m. Though area fire departments responded, the fire was handled by Kraton’s in-house emergency response team, he said.

“We did notify local authorities and the appropriate regulatory agencies,” he said.

Mongilio said the cause of the fire and extent of the damage are still under investigation, but “we don’t expect this to impact operations.”

Roads surrounding the plant remained open during the fire and authorities did not call for any kind of emergency measures.
