Photo by Christina Myer Tifiny Valenzuela, left, a Parkersburg native now living in Madrid, Spain, and her brother, Bill Sprouse, a Parkersburg native now living in Vestal, N.Y., are back in town to participate as runners in the Half Marathon, and for a family reunion. They ran into Tara Nunley, standing, a former Parkersburg resident who attended Parkersburg South High School at the same time as Sprouse, and now lives in Salem, Va. Nunley, also a runner in the Half Marathon, said she and her family come back each year to take part in the race.

Marie, part of the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study program, said she is required during her stay to perform some community service. “My host mom recommended this,” through Camden Clark Medical Center, she said. Behind her, Olivia Ramsay, 17, and a student at Parkersburg High School, is in her second year helping with the dinner, as a volunteer through CCMC. “I love it,” Ramsay said. “It’s one of my favorite things to do.”
Photo by Christina Myer John and Ann Wilson, left, of Palm Beach County, Fla., are participating in the Half Marathon as runners for the first time. They are on a six-month road trip, during which they are trying to run a half marathon in every state they visit. They shared a table at the pasta dinner with Susan and Stan Roach of Mineral Wells. As they got to know each other and shared pictures of the grandkids, John Wilson was impressed to learn Stan Roach has run the Half Marathon 27 times.
Photo by Christina Myer Charlie Pickens, of Washington, W.Va., and a Half Marathon runner, receives his ice cream dessert from CCMC volunteer Deanie Kendall, who said she has been working the event for 15 years. Pickens said he has run in the Half Marathon five times, and looks forward to the pre-race dinner. “I enjoy the good food,” he said, “but also running into folks I know.”

PARKERSBURG — Participants in this morning’s News and Sentinel Half Marathon got to fuel up Friday evening at a pre-race pasta dinner at St. Francis Xavier Hall in Parkersburg.
