Jury finds Parkersburg woman guilty of burglary

PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg woman was found guilty by a jury Thursday on charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and grand larceny.

A jury deliberated for more than an hour before returning guilty verdicts on all counts against Danielle Turpin, 30, following a two-day trial before Wood County Circuit Court Judge Robert Waters. She was accused of stealing a safe from a Parkersburg residence sometime between November and December of 2015.

Turpin was indicted in January along with Aaron Nichols, 33, also of Parkersburg. Nichols pleaded guilty to burglary earlier this year.

Also in Circuit Court Thursday:

* Jolan Kainon Bennett, 20, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County, was committed to the Anthony Center for Youthful Offenders for six months to two years after pleading guilty in June to two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. Judge J.D. Beane stayed his sentencing, pending completion of the Anthony Center program.

Court documents show Bennett is accused of engaging in sexual contact with a relative under the age of 12 between October 2015 and February 2017. The abuse started when Bennett was a minor himself and continued after he turned 18, according to a criminal complaint.

Two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of incest were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

* Andrea Holbert, 38, of Vienna, was sentenced to one to 10 years in prison on a felony charge of uttering. Beane suspended the sentence for three years of probation, with no objection from the state.

Holbert was also fined $200 and ordered to pay restitution on two counts of shoplifting and sentenced to 12 days, already served, in jail on a charge of fleeing on foot.

As part of a plea agreement, two additional uttering charges and multiple misdemeanor counts were dismissed.

* Austin M. Adkins, 20, of Parkersburg, pleaded guilty to entering without breaking. Sentencing was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 29.

Three counts of burglary and one count each of conspiracy to commit burglary, breaking and entering and petit larceny were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Beane granted a defense motion for Adkins to be released on a personal recognizance bond while he awaits sentencing. The prosecution asked that he be required to report to the Day Report Center and follow their terms.

* Ashton Brook Shotwell, 29, in custody at the regional jail, was sentenced to one to 10 years in prison with credit for 128 days served after earlier pleading guilty to third-offense shoplifting. Beane denied a motion for alternative sentencing.
