Parkersburg continuing flow tests on fire hydrants
PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Utility Board and the Parkersburg Fire Department will flow test fire hydrants the week of July 23-27, weather permitting, in the following areas:
* Monday — Pike Street at the 2300 block and Clegg Street, Crescent Street at 14th and 18th avenues, 13th Avenue at the 4100 block and Elder Street
* Wednesday — 17th Avenue at the 1600 block, Lake Hills Drive at 19th Avenue and the 1500 block, Nash Street at 20th Avenue, Willoughby Drive at the 1500 block
* Friday — Belmont Road at the 2100 and 2300 blocks; Pennsylvania Avenue at the 2200 block, 2300 block and Broadway Avenue, Capital Circle at the 2100 block
Testing will begin around 9:30 a.m. and continue until complete. The process is necessary to determine the amount of water that can be safely accessed from a hydrant, officials said.
The process may result in discolored water in the areas tested. Customers who experience discolored water can flush the lines through a cold water tap at a bathtub or utility sink.
If the water does not clear within a few minutes, call the utility board at 304-424-8535 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 304-424-8532 after 4:30.
