Man dies in paraplane crash
PENNSBORO — The identity of a Doddridge County man killed when his single-person aircraft crashed near Pennsboro Monday night has been released by Ritchie County authorities.
Doit Koppler, 80, of New Milton was pronounced dead at the scene after a search party found him, Ritchie County Sheriff’s Deputy J.C. Egan said. Koppler was operating a paraplane and had taken off from a private grass airstrip near River Road when he began to lose altitude and went into a wood line, he said.
The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
