Vienna, Waverly and Williamstown volunteer firefighters extinguish a fire at a house at 4807 Emerson Ave., north of Parkersburg city limits. Vienna Fire Chief Steve Scholl said smoke was spotted coming from the roof of the house by a passerby, who stopped and banged on the front door to warn the occupants. Four people escaped unharmed. Scholl said there was not a working smoke alarm in the house. Firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes, Scholl said. The cause was being investigated as of Monday afternoon.
