Wood BOE to review superintendent candidates

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education will meet in special session tonight to review finalists for Wood County Schools superintendent.

The special session will take place at 6:30 p.m. today at the district’s 13th and Plum streets offices in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public, but those wishing to address the board must fill out and submit a comment card prior to the start of the meeting.

Those candidates are: Eddie Campbell Jr., superintendent of Tucker County Schools; William Hosaflook, principal of Ripley High School; John McKown, curriculum coordinator for Wood County Schools; and Jeff Woofter, superintendent of Barbour County Schools.

School board President Lawrence Hasbargen said the board will meet behind closed doors to review the four current candidates and select one or two finalists.

Hasbargen said it is unlikely the board will make an announcement until after it has had a chance to speak to the person selected for the position.

“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves,” Hasbargen said.

The board has a regular meeting scheduled for May 22. The board must appoint a new superintendent by July 1. Superintendent John Flint’s contract, along with the terms of Hasbargen and two other board members, ends June 30.
