Third traffic fatality in Athens County

ATHENS — A third person was killed in a third traffic accident in Southeast Ohio over the weekend while a Parkersburg woman was killed in an accident on Thursday in Lexington, Tenn.

Helen Horn, 86, of New Marshfield, Ohio, was killed shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday when she collided with a pickup truck driven by Isaac Stack, 24, also of New Marshfield, on U.S. 50 in Athens County, the Athens Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Horn was driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla south on Township Road 32 and was attempting to cross U.S. 50 where she failed to yield the right of way and collided with the Ford F150 driven by Stack, the patrol said.

Horn was pronounced dead at the accident scene by the Athens County Coroner.

Also responding to the accident were the Richland Area Fire Department, Athens City Fire Department, Athens County Sheriff Department and Athens City Police Department.

It was the third fatality in a traffic accident in the region since Friday.

On Friday afternoon, Cieona Jade Vaido, 21, of Glouster was killed on Ohio 13 when she drove left of center, went off the left side of the road and struck a parked semi-trailer, the patrol said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Athens County Coroner.

Late Friday night, Jonathan T. Lemon, 25, of Laurelville, Ohio, was driving a pickup truck east on Thompson Ridge Road in Hocking County, crossed the centerline, returned to the correct side of the roadway, then went off the right side of the road and struck an embankment, several trees and overturned, the Highway Patrol said.

Lemon was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hocking County Coroner, the patrol said.

In Tennessee, Ute Ingrid Crews, 76, of Parkersburg was killed shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday in an accident on Interstate 40 in Henderson County on the eastbound lane at the 118 mile marker, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Crews was a passenger in a 2015 Subaru driven by her husband, John Alvin Crews, 83, who was not injured, the patrol said.

The car went off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned in the median, the patrol said.
