Self-inflicted gunshot wound claims driver’s life
PARKERSBURG — An Ohio resident died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while driving on Interstate 77 in Wood County Friday morning, the sheriff’s department said.
The motorist was traveling on I-77 at the northbound 179 mile-marker, just south of the Emerson Avenue exit, when the shooting occurred, police said. The self-inflicted gunshot wound claimed the life of an unidentified Massillon, Ohio, resident Friday.
Wood County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Robert Sims said the 1997 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north when the gunshot occurred. One northbound lane was closed at the scene during the initial investigation.
Sims said the investigation by the Wood County Crash Team and the Wood County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau is ongoing. The call about the incident was received at approximately 10:40 a.m. Friday, Sims said.
