Higher Learning Commission reviews WVU-P’s accreditation

PARKERSBURG — The Higher Learning Commission conducted a scheduled mid-cycle review as part of the Standard Pathway process at West Virginia University at Parkersburg in terms of the school’s accreditation.

On May 4, Interim President Jane Milley received a letter from the Higher Learning Commission informing the university that the institutional Actions Council of the Higher Learning Commission had taken official action regarding WVU-P accreditation on April 30.

“We have been confirmed with Interim Monitoring regarding assessment data to improve student learning especially in general education and updating our internal processes to formalize procedures that demonstrate participation of internal stakeholders in decision-making,” she said.

The institution’s accreditation is reviewed every 10 years through a peer review process; this recent scheduled four-year, mid-cycle comprehensive evaluation provides feedback to the institution to ensure the institution is meeting the Criteria for Accreditation, pursuing institutional improvement and complying with requirements set by the U.S. Department of Education, school officials said.

The next Interim Report will be due on May 1, 2020.

“We had a tremendous review,'” said Sam Winans, chairman of WVU-P’s Board of Governors. “It is all because of the work done by this team.

“From the administration to the faculty to the staff, this is all a team effort. This was stellar work.”

The report from this review has not been published yet.
