Two arrested for drug possession

POMEROY– A man and woman were arrested Thursday near the Meigs-Gallia County line after investigators found suspected heroin, crack and other drugs in their car, officials said.

Herbert Bare III, 34, of Langsville, Ohio, and Misty Baird, 32, of Gallipolis were charged with possession of heroin after a Meigs County Sheriff’s deputy stopped the 2003 Honda four-door in which they were traveling on Story’s Run Road for an equipment violation, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

After observing “criminal indicators” from the two and finding their driver’s licenses were suspended, the deputy called a K-9 unit to the scene. After the dog indicated the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle, a search revealed 4-5 grams of suspected heroin, plus more in Bare’s wallet, as well as suspected crack cocaine and Suboxone, the release says.

Deputies seized about 60 hypodermic syringes and about 15 glass pipes commonly used for smoking crack cocaine, the release says. Baird was also found to have $1,630 concealed on her, it says.

The sheriff’s office will consult with Meigs County Prosecutor James K. Stanley on additional charges, and the case will be presented to a Meigs County Grand Jury, the release says.
