Local agency receives development grant

PARKERSBURG — A local agency is among the recipients in West Virginia of funds allocated through the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Planning and Development Council will receive $70,000 of the $310,000 announced on Tuesday. The council covers Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasants, Richie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, and Wood counties.

Also receiving $70,000 was the Region 7 Planning and Development Council for Barbour, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Randolph, Tucker and Upshur counties and the Eastern Panhandle Regional Planning and Development Council for the counties of Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan and nine cities.

The Marshall University Research Corp. received $100,000 to provide technical assistance and research tools to increase long-term regional competitiveness and economic diversification.

The Economic Development Administration finances development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy of public and private sectors in the creation of a plan to diversify the economy.
