Wood County Board of Education to conduct superintendent evaluation

PARKERSBURG — Only a week after voting to not renew Superintendent John Flint’s contract, the Wood County Board of Education will gather Tuesday to approve Flint’s annual evaluation.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Wood County Schools central office at the corner of 13th and Plum streets in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public, but those wishing to address the board must fill out and turn in a comment card prior to the start of the meeting.

The board met in special session Feb. 27 and following a brief closed-door session unanimously voted against renewing Flint’s contract. Flint’s current contract expires June 30. However, state code requires the superintendent’s performance evaluation to be completed by March 1.

State officials have said the annual performance evaluations, positive or negative, do not directly affect contract negotiations.

Board President Lawrence Hasbargen said the board will make a brief statement on the performance review but details of the evaluation will not be released.

A template for the evaluation can be found on the West Virginia School Board Association’s web page http://www.wvsba.org and clicking the “County Schools Superintendent Evaluation Process and Procedures” link near the bottom of the page.

In other business, the board will receive an update on the therapy dog program at VanDevender Middle School, discuss and vote on renewing an architectural and engineering services contract with ZMM, discuss grant applications and receive information on a solar panel project at Williamstown High School.
