Courses on farming scheduled in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Beef Association and the WVU Extension Services will offering a series of Farmers Short Courses each week from Jan. 18 to March 22.

The courses are open to the public and free of charge. Each session will start at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Fort Boreman Room of the Judge Black Annex at 317 Market St. in downtown Parkersburg.

The sessions will be: Jan. 18, “Farm Bill, Farm Loan and EQUIP Program Updates” and “Decisions in Culling and Marketing Beef Cows”; Jan. 25, “Beef Cattle Outlook” WVU Dinner Night; Feb. 1, “Fertilizing Meadows and Pasture Fields” and “Livestock Minerals and Nutrition”; Feb. 8, “Livestock Grazing Behavior” 4-H/FFA Night and “Update on West Virginia Agriculture”; Feb. 15, “Poisonous Plants in Your Pasture”; Feb. 22, “Animal Health Concerns for Cattle” WVU Dinner Night; March 1, “Water Gaps and Other Fencing Issues”; March 8, “Legislative Update” and “WV Farm Preservation Program”; and March 22, “Woods and Wildlife” WVU Dinner Night.
