West Virginia Poison Center always available to help

CHARLESTON — What would you do if your toddler gets up early in the morning and gets into cleaning supplies?

What if you take too much medicine in the middle of the night?

Some people say they would check the Internet for poison information as they do not want to “bother” the West Virginia Poison Center, according to a news release.

Would you be “bothering” the West Virginia Poison Center? Never, officials said. Even during the holidays, or on weekends, or during the night? “Yes, we are always available,” the poison center said.

The center’s experts can take your call at any hour. Not sure if a medication error is a problem? That is what the poison center is here for, state officials said.

There is no need to hesitate if you think a poisoning or overdose may have occurred, center officials said.

The West Virginia Poison Center never closes. All calls are answered promptly by medical experts (doctors, pharmacists and nurses) with specialized training in poisoning management and medication errors, the center said.

Call 1-800-222-1222.

Located in Charleston, the WVPC is a part of the West Virginia University-Charleston Division. Website is wvpoisoncenter.org.
