Parkersburg City Council passes fee increases

PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg City Council tonight approved the final readings of ordinances doubling the police fee and increasing the fire fee by 95 percent.

The ordinances were combined after Councilman Jeff Fox made a motion to significantly alter them, but his amendment was rejected 6-3, the same margin by which the ordinances were then approved.

As of July 1, the monthly police fee will double from $4 for residential and $8 for commercial to $8 and $16, respectively, annual increases of $48 and $96. The fire fee is currently assessed at 4.5 cents per square foot, plus $100 for each story beyond the second. The new monthly rates will be 8.775 cents per square foot and $195 for the additional stories.
