First Lutheran Church to have Candlelight Christmas Eve services

PARKERSBURG –Everyone is invited to the traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve services Sunday at First Lutheran Church, 19th and Plum streets.

The services are anticipated each year as a wonderful and meaningful way to celebrate the birth of the Christ child, Jesus, said First Lutheran.

“First Lutheran is beautifully decorated, the special music is glorious and both of the candlelight services include the traditional Christmas hymns.” Everyone receives a candle to light and join in singing “Silent Night,” which, as is tradition, concludes each service.

The early service will begin at 5:30 p.m. with music beginning at 5:15 p.m. The late service begins at 11 p.m. with special music beginning at 10:30 p.m.

Both services will feature the Festival Choir under the direction of Mike Lockney. Special guest vocalists will join the Festival Choir.

Sherry Fosselman, First Lutheran organist, also will be featured. The Eastlawn Brass Quintet will make its annual appearance and will be joined by other musicians and percussionists.

Holy Communion will be celebrated at both services.

As is tradition, red and white poinsettias given in honor and remembrance of members, friends and relatives will decorate the church. Worshippers will be surrounded by candlelight and seasonal greenery.

The public is invited to attend the services and “hear the good news, experience the excitement and share in the wonder of the holy season, the night of the Savior’s birth and a celebration of the meaning of this night.”

First Lutheran Church is handicapped accessible and has the hearing assistance L.O.O.P. system. A nursery will be available during the early service.

Free parking is available in the church parking lot and in the Mother Earth Health Foods lot next to the church. Call the church for more information at 304 428-6174.
