Holiday in the Park to kick off Saturday

PARKERSBURG — The annual Holiday In the Park lights display at City Park in Parkersburg will kick off with a lighting ceremony Saturday and will remain open through Dec. 31.

The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the City Park horseshoe pits where Santa Claus will be handing out candy canes.

There will be holiday music, speeches by local dignitaries and recognition of past supporters.

The Holiday In the Park exhibit also includes several displays in Southwood Park off Blizzard Drive in south Parkersburg.

Over 80 displays will be featured this year, including ones by Holiday in the Park along with many more by different businesses, groups and organizations. Some of the displays will be updated and improved.

Winners of the coloring contest will be announced and Santa will be there to present the winners with their certificate and $25 gift card.

The Parkersburg Fire Department will be giving attendees rides around the park to view the lights on a fire truck.

The Henry Cooper Log Cabin Museum, operated by the Centennial Chapter of the Daughters of the American Pioneers, will be open after the ceremony for no charge from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. Punch and cookies will be available.

Horse-drawn wagon rides will be featured through the season, weather permitting.
