Wood County Democrats honor Parkersburg woman

PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg woman has been named the Wood County Democrat of the Year by the Wood County Democratic Executive Committee.

Receiving the award was Judy Stephens.

“I am humbled and amazed to be the recipient of such an honor,” Stephens said. I’m filled with appreciation to have been selected by my peers for this award.”

Stephens is the executive director for the county party. She has actively supported Democratic principles for many years through hundreds of hours volunteered to organize and supervise the Democratic headquarters, designing parade floats, promoting Democratic ideals at community functions and supporting and electing candidates including Wayne Dunn, Glen Gainer, Natalie Tennant and local candidates, and has assisted with fundraisers including multiple soup bean dinners.

Stephens serves on the West Virginia State Democratic Committee and is a member of Progressive Democrats.

She will be recognized at the annual 2017 Roosevelt-Kennedy Annual Dinner Nov. 3 in Charleston where the keynote speaker for the annual dinner will be U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

“We are proud to say she should be recognized for her work,” county party Chairman Daryl Cobranchi said.

Stephens also is a lifetime member of the Lady’s Auxiliary of VFW 8127 where she is a past president. She is married to Kerry D. Stephens and has two children, James Morris and Heather Armstrong.

County Democratic Party meetings are open to the public and are held the second Thursdays of the month at the Parkersburg City Building.
