Wood County Board of Education to hold three meetings next week
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education will hold three meetings next week, one regular session and two to receive Local School Improvement Council reports.
The regular meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the board’s 13th and Plum streets offices in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public, but those wishing to speak must fill out and submit a comment card prior to the beginning of the meeting.
The board will hold a discussion on transportation logistics, an attendance area policy and property purchases and construction. The board also will receive a presentation on the Wood County Schools Character Education website.
The board is expected to approve the expulsion of three students for violation of the Safe Schools Act, and a 30-day suspension without pay for an unnamed employee.
Two LSIC presentation meetings will be held next week. The first begins at 6 p.m. Monday at Emerson Elementary School in Parkersburg. The board will receive presentations from Waverly, Kanawha, Fairplains and Emerson elementary schools.
The second meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at VanDevender Middle School. The board will receive presentations from Vandy as well as Jefferson, McKinley and Madison elementary schools.
The special meetings give school LSICs a chance to present information on academics and school culture to the board. The informational meetings, which are open to the public, are required under state code.
