WILLIAMSTOWN — Ordinances to set zoning on three properties in the city were approved on their first readings by Williamstown City Council Tuesday.

Mayor Jean Ford said one of the ordinances was to rezone the former Fenton Art Glass factory site for the new elementary school and the other two were to set zoning for recently annexed areas.

City Attorney Blaine Myers said the two recently annexed properties were for the Tucker’s Landing development by Jeff Martin and the Henderson Wilds LLC property. Tucker’s Landing is to be zoned for residential property and the Henderson Wilds property is to be zoned commercial.

Both were passed in a unanimous vote. Councilman Marty Seufer was absent.

Council then voted on the third zoning ordinance to rezone the former Fenton Art Glass factory site from zone 3, area 2 industrial to residential for the Williamstown Elementary School. It passed in a unanimous vote with Seufer absent.

There will be a second reading and public hearing on Sept. 5, the next regularly scheduled council meeting. On Aug. 21 the city planning committee will discuss the ordinances in a 7:30 p.m. meeting in city hall.

In other business:

* Ford said the city has received a letter thanking the city for the cleanup of the former Alliance Auto property next to Fenton Park along West Virginia 14.

* Councilwoman Barbara Lewis said the city swimming pool has closed for the year. She said while final figures are not in yet, the pool had a “very, very good” season. The pool is closed because all of the lifeguards will return to school today and there were no adult lifeguards, Lewis said.
